Brewer's Reserve - The Flying Nun series continues...
Rolling Moon Wheat
Brewer’s Reserve November 2010 release
The Flying Nun series continues…
Rolling Moon was the legendary first single The Chills cut for Flying Nun in 1982 described as “raw psych post punk and… fresh!” We don’t claim this to be the first Weissbier on tap but it is fresh, from Dunedin and definitely post punk. Chilled too…
With the release of our bottled Weissbier came a flurry of enquiries for the return of our tap Wheat beer, Bewildered, last year’s 6% tap beauty. Rolling Moon is in response to that demand. The great problem (what problem?) with Weissbier is that it’s just so drinkable, low in bitterness, high in carbonation, full body and that classic Weissbier character. Rolling Moon is a touch lower in alcohol at 5.6%, for a little more crispness and a little less rolling on a hot Summer’s day.
Brewer’s Reserves should be something special, and we aim to always ensure that this is so. The great thing with Brewer’s Reserves is that we can enhance our knowledge and ‘amp’ up beer flavours to provide something special. One of the keys to a great tasting German style weissbier is how the brewer manages the ferment. Rolling Moon had a number of different techniques applied and the result is we believe very special. Unlike many weissbiers Rolling Moon is not a banana ‘bomb’. The balance between the flavours is fantastic, no one flavour dominates, in this complex yet refreshing tap Weiss.
We’d like to see this as our Reserve or special Director’s Weissbier – the best thing is that you get to experience it and its not kept to the boardroom! (No Richard……No)
On tap, unfiltered or ‘mit hefe’, and served in a tall 500 ml Weissbier glass.
Quite possibly another Dunedin legend…
Prosit!
